On cars, coaches, and moving across space,
from 1972-80
Another recurring theme in Lacy’s work is traveling and movement
across space. The automobile features prominently in her work, beginning
in 1972 when she constructed Car Renovation as part of Route 126, a happening
assigned to Judy Chicago’s performance class, and continuing through
the nineties with her wrecked car series in Auto: On the Edge of Time
and her performances such as Code 33 with youth and police conversations
staged between cars in a parking structure.
