Body Contract, 1974
Lacy researched the new science of organ transplants and organ donations that were possible at the time under California law. Prepared by a lawyer, this multipage document outlines different designations for the distribution of Lacy’s body parts and a bill of sale. The conceptually driven work reflects a larger discussion in contemporary art around the relationship of the artist to commerce and the production of non-salable art.
