Dad Lessons, 2019

Lacy made a video work featuring her elderly father, Larry Lacy. Alone in the camera’s frame, he recalls his service in the United States Air Force in one video, and his speculation on the cattle industry and beef jerky in the other. Shot against sweeping backdrops of Tulare, California, in the San Joaquin Valley, these works evoke the simple act of a daughter listening to her father reflect on his life and observe the changing surroundings in which he finds himself.

Photographs

In a set of four photographs representing Larry Lacy’s room filled with photographs of a life well-lived, Lacy continues to explore class representation as an aspect of aging. The photos are part of a mixed media installation that re-presents the room that is simultaneously a memorial, a living archive, and a collage sculpture of and by her father.
