Prostitution Notes at the Serpentine Gallery (2010)

In 2010, Lacy reinvented Prostitution Notes (1974) as a performed reading of her original drawings for the Serpentine Gallery's Map Marathon in London. Lacy and Peter Kirby created a new video for the series, which featured  nonstop live presentations by over 50 artists, poets, writers, philosophers, scholars, musicians, architects, designers and scientists from diverse fields who showcased possible maps for the coming decade. This ambitious two-day event took place during Frieze Art Fair week.

Lacy's reading reconstructed her own early journey into what was then called β€œThe Life.”  The presentation included an appearance by Heidi Hoefinger, an academic, published author and activist whose research focuses on advocacy for sex workers in Southeast Asia. Hoefinger drew upon personal histories as a former sex worker herself, responding to Lacy's text in seductive tones from a balcony above the stage.
